Cesena never had an important bobbin lace tradition, neither as particular technique nor as source of gain. Lace was known and worked into convents. It was taught by sisters coming from towns like Cantù, Offida, Pescocostanzo and can be found in old table clothes and sheets.
In 1988 I opened a bobbin lace school, completely free, as a cultural offer from the town of Cesena.
In 1996 the Association "Il fusello" (The bobbin) was born. With the support of the President of the Cultural Center of Sansepolcro, Mr. Paolo Piovaticci, our activity grew up and became well known through Italy.

Our interest is not only in teaching traditional Italian bobbin lace, but in turning it to innovative projects inspiring to creative modern art. We wish to give to our lace works original features, in techniques as well as in threads and in the research of new inspirations. This also with the goal to render the style of Cesena bobbin lace recognizable.

In 1992 our work "Sacra geometria di Piero" won the silver pillow in Sansepolcro International lace Competition

In 1993, 1996 and 2000 we ran bobbin lace shows in Cesena; the success was great not only in town, but nationally. In the same period a fruitful collaboration with the fashion school SARTECO (Empoli) began. Some of our modern creations took part in shows, together with fashion works of SARTECO School, in Florence, Arezzo, Milan, Paris, Monte Carlo and Japan; everywhere there was great curiosity and consent for the perfection of the technique and the artistic sensibility.

We participated with our reports to the international Conventions organised by Gorizia Bobbin lace School in 1995, 1996 e 1998 and to L' Aquila Convention in 1997.

We work, in collaboration with Ms. Thessy Shoenholzer Nichols, well known lace artist and historian, to the project "Classical culture for modern bobbin lace" to promote a modernization of lace teachers, starting from the knowledge of the past to get to the future, for an art of lace answering to the taste of the modern world. As to this, we carried out many lace stages on different techniques.

In 2001 we took part in the constitution of the Association Italia Invita, to promote contacts and relations among lace and embroidery realities in Italy and similar realities abroad. The main event organised by the Association was the International Lace and Embroidery Forum in 2003, that gained a great success.

Our engagement for the recovery and spread of the Italian lace is determined and constant.
