Maria Di Benedetto was born in Molise, a land where bobbin lace is a traditional work still alive. After some years spent in Germany with her family, she lives in Lanuvio (Rome) now. She learnt the art of lacemaking from her grandmother at the age of 5 years. Later on she learnt more and more about bobbin lace techniques, as well as embroidery and weaving. She took part in many international stages and conventions; her lace works, as well as her terrific lace pillows and bobbins collection, has been shown in many national and international events. She took also part in many international lace competitions; in particular, she gained the silver medal in Sansepolcro Lace Biennial International Competition in 1996; in 1998, she obtained a very special mention: the International Recognition for the activity and collaboration in the field of lacemaking in Europe. She usually takes part into German Lacemakers' Association annual Convention. She has been teaching since 1995, giving lace lessons in many towns of her region. Sometimes she organises small stages for people coming from abroad, offering them also a pleasant stay in "Castelli Romani", a beautiful land of hills not far from Rome.
