Using the Playback Controls

combustion provides real-time playback of composites and other projects. Real-time playback is limited by the amount of RAM available on your system. You can use these controls to preview your work by playing or scrubbing through the clips.

When playing clips, combustion uses the RAM cache to store playback information. When you first play a clip, playback is slower as the information is being stored for the first time. When you have cycled through your frames once, playback becomes full speed. The rate of playback (fps) is displayed in the viewport.

Note: You can start and stop playback by pressing the Enter key, or by pressing the Spacebar once. (Holding the Spacebar is a shortcut for panning the viewport.)

You can access the playback controls through the Movie menu as well.

The Current Frame field displays the current frame. Click and drag to scrub through the clip.

Use the Duration box to view the duration of the operator. You can choose to view one of two time scales: Global Time or Local Time.
