Switching Between Sources
The Switcher operator accepts multiple inputs and then outputs the one you select. Thus, you can use this operator to easily switch between several operators without having to disconnect one to connect another.
Note: No changes are made to the input sources by the Switcher operator.
When you commit an operator's output to disk, a Switcher is created by default. This allows you to switch between the original operator and the Footage operator for the committed clip. This is the most common use for a Switcher.
Switchers can also be used at other times, for example:
- When input sources are several clips that require the same processing (for example, a series of operators). With the Switcher, you do not have to duplicate the branch.
- When you want to try several takes to see which looks better in a composite. (This is similar to how the Store buttons can be used in combustion.)
- When you want to switch between multiple versions (resolutions) of the same clip. You then use the Switcher like the Make Proxy feature in the Footage operator.
