Deflector Controls

When a deflector object is selected in the Workspace panel (and when you draw a deflector object using the Deflector tool), the Particle Controls panel changes to show a Deflector category.

The Deflector controls (and Transform controls) apply to the selected deflector in the Workspace panel (or in the viewport).

Bounce

The Bounce field determines the amount of bounce that the deflector provides for the collision with particles. The range of values for this field starts at 0.

By default, Bounce is set to 100%, and the deflector does not change the bounce of the particles.

Hits

The Hits field determines the probability that a particle collides with the deflector.

When set to 0%, all particles pass through the deflector. At 100% (the default), all particles collide with the deflector.

Thickness

When Thickness is not 0, particles hit various places in the deflector instead of along a single line. They hit with equal probability throughout the thickness of the deflector.

The Thickness field is used to increase the collision area of the deflector. When the value is at 0%, the deflector is a line and all particles that hit the deflector collide with that line. When the value is increased, the deflector becomes a "rectangle" of increasing thickness, and particles that hit the deflector hit at various points in the rectangle (see following image).

This can be used to give the appearance of particles hitting at different points on a surface, for example.

Active Deflector

You can turn the deflector on and off with this option, and you can also animate this setting in the Timeline.

Visible

You can make a deflector visible during playback by enabling this option. The deflector is also visible in the composite if the Particles operator is applied to a composite layer.

Deflector Transform Controls

The Transform controls for a deflector include Position, Rotation, and Pivot.

To change a deflector in the viewport use the Arrow tool with its options:
