Creating a Polygon Selection

Use the Polygon Selection tool to draw simple polygon shape selections, complex Polygon selections, or a combination of the two.

The following example illustrates how to select a simple polygon-shaped object (in this case, the object is a rectangle that has been skewed because of the perspective).

To create a selection for a simple polygon:
  1. On the Toolbar, click the Polygon Selection tool .
  2. Move the cursor over the first corner of the polygon.
  3. The cursor turns into a crosshair.

  4. Click to anchor the first control point, then move the cursor to the next corner.
  5. Click to anchor the control point.
  6. The control points are joined by a straight line.

  7. Move to the next corner and click to anchor the control point.
  8. Anchor a control point to the last corner, then move the cursor back over the first corner. The following cursor appears.
  9. This cursor indicates that by clicking you will close the selection.

  10. Click to close the selection.
  11. The selection is outlined with a marquee.

To create a selection for a complex polygon:
  1. On the Toolbar, click the Polygon Selection tool .
  2. Move the cursor to where you want to start the selection.
  3. To create Polygon control points for a curved polygon, click to anchor a control point, and then drag the crosshair to create a curved side of the shape.
  4. Note: You can edit Bezier control points to change the curve of the polygon. For more information, see Editing Object Shapes with Control Points.

  5. Continue marking control points as needed.
  6. Move the crosshair back to the first control point, then click to close the Polygon curve selection.
  7. The selection is outlined with a marquee.
