Gradient Wipe

Use Gradient Wipe to gradually reveal or hide a layer based on the values of pixels in a separate channel, in the same or a different layer.

The previous example illustrates a gradient wipe based on the luminance in the talent's profile. Usually, you create a grayscale image or gradient to use as a source for this kind of wipe. If you do not select a source, the Gradient Wipe creates a uniform dissolve as illustrated at the bottom of this page.

Amount

Determines how much the current layer is obscured.

Softness

Creates a soft edge between transparent and opaque areas creating a smoother effect.

Layer

Is the source operator— the operator used to determine the transparency of the current layer. In the previous example, the source layer is the footage of the talent's profile.

Channel

Determines which information in the source layer is used for the gradient wipe.
