Mittagstal/Val Mesdì

Here follows a sequence of pictures taken in 1994, during my last visit to the valley, in the years following, the snow conditions weren'tgood enough to allow us a repeat. But that was really a field day.
The group was composed of :
Enrico and Marcello, our guides, Alberto and Chiara ( my best ski pals and friends, they married in 1994), Matteo, my uncle Giovanni,
Elio (aka Mago-G) he's now become a Snow-boarder, and a good one at that! (thee hee), and Matteo (yours truly).

Warning (Pordoi Pass cable car hill station, Sellagruppe, Jan 1994)

Here we are (left to right): Alberto, Chiara, Elio, standing. Giovanni and Matteo, squatting.

Inside the Pordoi hut, drinking something warm before starting...
By now the names are well known...Marcello is the first on the right

After hot cocoas and teas, out and marsch!

This is what the warning identifies as FORCELLA PORDOI
the skiable part is on the left lower corner of the picture

In the middle of nowere, albeit crowded...

On the way to the run...Marcello can be seen on the far right, he'd retrieved a ski
lost by someone belonging to another group...

At last! In view of the entrance to the valley (the hut there is the Rifugio Val Mesdì)

Just go straight (follow the red arrow) and the run is there...

Val Mesdì/Mittagstal, looking up the initial chute (Jan 1994)
Chiara is deciding how to go down...

Val Mesdì/Mittagstal, looking down the initial chute (Jan 1994)
The first guy looking up at me is Matteo (not me)

Val Mesdì/Mittagstal, looking at a lateral chute from the main body of the valley (Jan 1994)
the village of Colfosco can also be seen far down.
The facing rock is the Sassongher with underneath it the Colfoscoski area.

Val Mesdì/Mittagstal, just after the initial chute, entering the main body of the valley (Jan 1994)
From "left" to"right": Matteo, Matteo (me), Alberto and Chiara

Aah! That's what we were looking at in awe...

Marcello, right, discussing with some of us tricks and hints to be used to ski the powder
