The issue of violence and its prevention has become more than ever a concern for some educational sytems. As research has proven, mediation in many countries is rapidly becoming an alternative strategy to help students resolve conflicts in a positive way - peacefully, where they participate in the process, a way of acquiring human relation skills which remains for life, and also as a strategy that implicitly improves the overall environment in the school. Within the objectives of the European project GESPOSIT* funded by Innitiative Connect XXII, this communication adresses the intervention of the Portuguese partner in its own country, namely, the process in establishing a peer mediation program. Taking into account that this process emcompasses three phases, sensibilization, training and implementation, the emphasis, at this point, will be given to the sensibilization phase to the educational community.
