Write About Dogs - The Art of Spiritual Warfare - Jung: A Journey of Transformation - Soul Empowerment - The Traveler's Key to Ancient Greece: A Guide to Sacred Places

by Annalisa & Giampiero Cara, Staci Backauskas

In all probability, this book is unlike any other you've ever read before. It's a spiritual novel, but not of the kind New Age novels like The Celestine Prophecy and its numerous clones have taught us to expect. Unlike them, this book is focussed on inner action much more than on external one. And it's written in an adventurous, experimental, eclectic style that granted its author Keith Ryan (click here to read his article on How to Consciously Win the Lottery) a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize. But Ryan's considerable writing skills are not important per se. They're only an effective means for expressing a strong spiritual content. It's the story of a man who discovers the power to create one's own life and the vital interconnectedness of all things through his love for his dog, with the help of Seth and the revolutionary concepts this famous channelled entity expresses in Jane Robert's books. It sounds simple here, but it's not when you actually read the book, following it through all its surprising changes in tone and style, which correspond to the main character's changes in perception. Sometimes a little patience is required. Whenever the story seems to stall, expect a development that will make further reading absolutely worthwhile. And we cannot say more about a book that, as life itself according to its message, is something to experience, not just to talk about. (A.&G. C.)

The statements in this book are bold, thought-provoking and likely to cause rousing debate. Equating the struggle between our souls and our "personal enemies" (such as addictions, neuroses, etc.) with battle, Schnarr uses the ancient tenets of Sun Tzu's The Art of War as a guide for developing awareness and defending our souls. The concepts are deep and stirring, reaching like the roots of a tree into unexplored spiritual territory. As such, substantial time is needed to process them. But I feel the book is critical reading for those serious about evolving spiritually. As Dr. Robert Moore states in the foreword, allusions to warfare lexicon in terms of spirituality are verboten in our modern "new age." But it makes so much sense if approached with an open mind. Each of the 13 chapters begins with a statement from the brilliant Chinese military strategy, followed by an interpretation encouraging application to our own personal spiritual battles. Shnarr then suggests everyday tasks that can be attempted to reinforce the concept. One must be committed to growth to take the time to absorb the concepts and tasks. But I'm confident the results will be worth it. (S.B.)

This impressive coffee-table type book takes the reader on an exquisite journey into the personal life, beliefs and teachings of Carl Jung. The book includes several paintings from the brilliant mystic artist Freydoon Rassouli. I've not ever experienced my intellect and creative awareness being stimulated simultaneously in this way before. Crowley provides little known information about Jung, his parents and childhood that help one understand why he was destined to become a seeker. She takes time to explore the relationship Jung had with Freud using a personal style that provides a welcome change from the clinical descriptions I' ve previously read. The concepts of the collective unconscious, anima and animus, persona and ego and transformation are explained in simple, yet intelligent language suitable for both the scholar and novice. Delving into the mythical archetypes that Jung worked with to help explain gender role and the emotions each experiences with aging, Crowley makes Jung accessible. Sprinkled in between the easy to read larger type are photographs and paintings that again marry the intellect and creative awareness. Throw some Beethoven or Bach on the stereo and give yourself the ultimate experience of having three separate parts of your brain inspired all at once. A real joy to read! (S.B.)

This manual can be particularly useful for professional therapists and for people who want to face other people's problem and/or their own from an "alternative" perspective. Written by two successful psychic healers, it introduces us to multidimensional healing, a new approach based on the assumption that "we are spiritual beings learning how to be human beings". That's why we undertake an indefinite number of soul's cycles of learning, and we have to be aware of them in order to tune in our soul's purpose and heal from any ailment. The authors also share with us some of their techniques for developing intuition, integrating our psychic ability with NLP and kinesiology, reading body signals, dealing with resistance, getting in touch with our inner child, and more. All this information, well written and even better organized, makes Soul Empowerment a rich source of healing techniques, practical examples, and insights on multidimensional reality. (A.& G. C.)

If you're looking for a deeper understanding of the mythology and spirituality of ancient Greece, this is the book for you. Not a typical guidebook for foreign travel, it won't tell you what transportation will get you to the Acropolis or rate the restaurants outside Olympia. It will, however, give you a detailed history of the structures, towns and mythologies of Greece and provide in-depth analysis of its ancient religion and politics. Mr. Geldard outlines, in minute detail, the places and methods of ancient god and goddess worship. The myths of Apollo and Demeter and other deities are covered, as well as the methods the Greeks used to honor them. In addition, Geldard introduces lesser known mythological figures like Tantalus, who offered his son as a meal to the gods and was punished by being forever "tantalized," standing in water he could never drink "while overhead dangles fruit that the winds blow from his outstretched hand." He also relates traditionally left-brained Greek contributions, such as the Pythagorean System and geometry, to spirituality and sacredness by seeing that in life as well as in "math" what appears from the spirit must return to spirit. This is a serious read. But settling in for a while allows you to be transported to a time we can only imagine as we sit in our comfortable furniture, sipping a glass of iced lemonade. (S.B.)
