The Director
Renato Sabatini has
been soprano solo in the “Pueri Cantores” ( 1932-1938 ) under the direction of
Raffaele Casimiri, Onorio Magnoni e Licinio Refile. He has studied singing, as
a tenor, with the maestro Aldo Zeetti at the “Istituto Musicale Francesco
Morlacchi in Perugia where he got his diploma in singing. He has also studied
in Rome at the school of the soprano Anna Maria Turchetti, who was partner of
the most famous opera singers of the first 30 years of the 20th
century.He has started his opera career when he was very young. He has
performed and he is still performing a lot of concert activity, both in Italy
and in other countries. he has studied ancient vocal music with clemente terni
and “musica da camera” with Tullio Macoggi. He has founded and he is actually
conducting the choir “I Cantori di Perugia”; he is artistic director of the
“Gruppo Musicale Umbro”.He is musical assistant at the University for
Foreigners in Perugia and director of the “Coro da Camera” of Palazzo Gallenga.
He is vocalist, singing teacher and author of several publications about
Umbrian musicology for which he received national awards : “ Musica in Umbria”
( 1963 ); “Medaglioni Musicali Umbri” ( 1968 ); “Francesco Morlacchi” ( 1977 );
photo collection about “Francesco Morlacchi” ( 1980 ); “Teatri Umbri” ( 1981 )
under request of the Sagra MusicaleUmbra; collection of Umbrian popular texts,
as insertion in the records “Canti dell’Umbria” and “Canti Umbri”. At present
Renato Sabatini is taking care of the publications “Verdi e i musicisti umbri
del suo tempo”; “La Desolata” religious event in the XVIIth century;
“Trent’anni di musica all’Università per Stranieri”; “Francesco Morlacchi,
direttore d’orchestra”.He has received in Terni the International Award “5
Valentino D’Oro” for the Umbrian musical essays. For his musical activity, he
has also received the Prime Minister Award.He is author of the TV programme
“L’Angolo della Musica” on Teleumbria-Retesole.From 1987, because of his
artistic career, he has been appointed Cavaliere della Repubblica Italiana and
Accademico d’Onore dell’Accademia di Belle Arti “Pietro Vannucci” di Perugia.
