“THE
SHERLOCK HOLMES STRATEGY” HERE
STARTS THE STORY … - STEP 1 In
this activity we will be using the “Sherlock Holmes strategy” to
speculate on the content of a short story. First
of all, let’s have a look at the title of the story: THE
BASEMENT ROOM If
you can, work with a friend or a colleague. Here are a few questions to
help you focus your thoughts – but you can ask other questions as well!
Try to answer them by talking aloud. Ask yourself “WHY?” whenever you
try to give an answer – that is, justify your speculations by
verbalising your “train of thoughts” and by mentioning the clues that
trigger off your speculations … ·What
does this title make you think of? ·What
images do you associate with a “basement room”? ·Have
you got any memories connected with a basement room? ·What sort of story do you think it could be? When you are ready to look at the first paragraph of the story, click here. |
