The Crucified Christ by Friar Umile

The wooden Crucified Christ is on display in Maia SS. delle Grazie Church. It was carved in the XVII cebtury by Friar Umile of Petralia, on of the most important Sicilian artists of that time.

He worked mainly crucifixes. The Christ in the Mojo Church was commissioned by the Lanza family and was given as a gift to the hard working and devout peasants of the village.

The striking feature of the Moian Crucifix is its intense and dramatic expression; a characteristic feature of Friar Umile's sculptures.
