Using the Workspace Panel

One place to see the process tree is the Workspace panel. Like the Timeline, it shows a hierarchy tree view.

To show the Workspace panel:

Choose Window | Palettes | Show Workspace.

Note: If the panel is covered by the Toolbar, click the Workspace tab or press F3.

You use the Workspace panel to select layers, access operator controls, and choose what is displayed in the viewports. More importantly, you can use it to organize the order of operators to control your final output, or result. For example, you can drag a Color Corrector operator above a Paint operator in the Workspace panel.

You can also rearrange layers in a composite; this is something that is not possible in the Schematic view. For example, you can move a layer in front of another layer at the same Z-position.

Click the black triangles to the left to expand or collapse an item. The yellow icons next to objects and operators indicate that they are on (visible in the viewport). Click an icon to turn it off. This makes it invisible in the viewport but does not delete it or change its properties.

To select an operator:

Click the operator name once.

An arrow appears to the right of the operator name, and the information in the Timeline and operator controls panel is updated. The viewport is not updated.

Note: A layer is not an operator; it is part of the Composite operator. When you select a layer, some of the controls in the Composite Controls panel apply to the layer, and some apply to the entire composite.

To display an operator in the viewport using the Workspace panel:
  1. If two or more viewports are displayed, select one to make it active.
  2. Do one of the following:

These methods use the Workspace panel. A few other methods are listed in Displaying Operators in the Viewport.
