Importing Footage

After you create a composite, you can import footage in several different ways. Normally, you import clips or image sequences. You can also import still images with a pre-defined duration.

When you import footage into a composite, a new layer is created. The layer contains one operator—the Footage operator.

Once your footage is imported, you are ready to begin compositing, animating, painting, and so on.

Note: For best results, all Footage operators used as layers in a composite should have the same frame rate as the composite. For more information, see Changing the Frame Rate.

To import a clip:
  1. In the Workspace panel, select the composite into which you want to import footage.
  2. Choose File | Import Footage, or press Ctrl+I (Windows) or Command+I (Macintosh).
  3. The Import Footage file browser appears.

  4. Navigate to the folder containing the clip you want to import, select the clip, and then click OK.
  5. Note: Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Macintosh) to select multiple files. Selected files appear at the bottom of the file browser. To remove a selected file, double-click it in the bottom part of the browser.

The layers are imported (and stacked in the Workspace panel) in the order you select them. The footage appears in the current viewport.

A new layer (or layers) containing the selected footage appears in the composite. You can see this in the Workspace panel, Timeline, and Schematic view.

For information on viewing layers in the Timeline, see Navigating in the Timeline Hierarchy.
