Hinging Layers
Hinging links the edges of two layers similarly to the way a door attaches to a wall. The first (or hinged) layer becomes the child of the second layer. If you move the parent layer, the hinged layer moves to keep the link to the parent layer.
To hinge layers:
- Select a layer. This will be the child layer.
- Do one of the following:
- In the Layer controls, select the second layer from the Hinge list.
- Click the Hinge Pick button in the Layer controls, then select the second layer in a viewport.
The closest edges of the layers are automatically hinged. The layer you hinged snaps to the nearest edge of the parent layer and its pivot point moves to align along the hinged edge. You can rotate the hinged layer along one axis only.
