Creating a Nested Composite

You can create a layer in an existing composite that contains a new composite. The output of this new, nested composite is the source for the layer. You can then import clips and images, create layers, and add operators to the new composite just as you would normally.

To create a nested composite:
  1. Select a composite in the Workspace panel. You will nest the new composite into this one.
  2. Select Object | New Layer, or press Ctrl+Y (Windows) or Command+Y (Macintosh).
  3. The New dialog appears.

  4. Choose Composite from the Type list.
  5. In the Name field, enter a name for the composite.
  6. Select a standard format from the Format Options list or select Custom to create a custom format. For more information, see Choosing Format Options.
  7. The corresponding properties (output size, frame aspect ratio, pixel aspect ratio, and frame rate) appear in the Format Options box.

  8. In the Duration field, enter a duration in either frames or in SMPTE timecode.
  9. To change the background color, click the Background Color box, select a color from the Pick Color dialog that appears, and then click OK.
  10. Select a bit depth from the Depth list.
  11. Enable the 2D or 3D Mode button, and click OK.
  12. A new layer is created in the original composite that contains the new composite. The nested composite automatically becomes the current operator.

  13. Import footage, and add layers and operators to this composite just as you would normally. For information, see Adding Layers to a Composite.
