Modifying Mask Transparency

To modify a mask's transparency, select the mask, and then adjust the Opacity slider in the Modes controls.

A mask isolates a region of an image and makes the rest of the image completely transparent.

The inside of the mask has an opacity between 0 and 100%, while the outside has an opacity equal to 0%.

Since an opacity of 100% is total opacity, lower the opacity to see some of the underlying layer through the mask (in the composite).

When you invert a mask, you make the rest of the image completely opaque. You still control the opacity of the inside of the mask, but the opacity is inverted (Opacity = 80% makes the inside 20% opaque).

When masks with different opacity values overlap, the stacking order of the masks has no effect on the intersecting portion of the masks.

In the following example, the elliptical mask is on top of the rectangular mask in the composite. When the Combine Mode is set to Add, the values of both masks are combined in the intersecting portion of the masks.
