Cutting, Copying, and Pasting Selections

There are two ways to use cut and copy with selections: you can cut/copy the selection object itself, or you can cut/copy the image that the object is selecting.

Note: Cutting, copying, and pasting an image only works when making selections within a Paint operator, not within a selection operator.

To make a copy of the selected portion of the image:
  1. Draw a selection.
  2. You should see the selection marquee, but no bounding box.

  3. Choose Edit | Cut or Edit | Copy.
  4. Note: If you cut out the selection, the selection is replaced with the background color.

  5. Do one of the following:
To cut/copy the selection object:
  1. Draw a selection.
  2. Click the Arrow tool , then click the selection object to activate it.
  3. A bounding box appears around the selection object.

  4. Choose Edit | Cut or Edit | Copy.
  5. Choose Edit | Paste to place the selection object into the active viewport.
To copy a background object from one Paint operator to another:
  1. On the Toolbar, click one of the selection tools and select a portion of the background to be copied.
  2. Choose Edit | Copy.
  3. The background selection remains in the Paint operator and is copied to the clipboard.

  4. Select the Paint operator where you want to paste the object.
  5. Choose Edit | Paste. The selection is pasted into the current Paint operator.
