Cutting, Copying, and Pasting Selections
There are two ways to use cut and copy with selections: you can cut/copy the selection object itself, or you can cut/copy the image that the object is selecting.
Note: Cutting, copying, and pasting an image only works when making selections within a Paint operator, not within a selection operator.
To make a copy of the selected portion of the image:
- Draw a selection.
You should see the selection marquee, but no bounding box.
- Choose Edit | Cut or Edit | Copy.
Note: If you cut out the selection, the selection is replaced with the background color.
- Do one of the following:
- Choose Edit | Paste to paste the new object on top of the selection. You can manipulate this object as you would any other object in combustion.
- Draw another selection in Replace mode, and then choose Selection | Paste Into. The portion of the image that you copied in step 2 is pasted into the center of the current selection.
- Draw another selection in Replace mode, and then choose Selection | Paste and Fit Into. The portion of the image that you copied in step 2 is pasted and resized to fit into the current selection.
Note: Changing the originally selected underlying images or objects does not change the pasted object.
To cut/copy the selection object:
- Draw a selection.
- Click the Arrow tool , then click the selection object to activate it.
A bounding box appears around the selection object.
- Choose Edit | Cut or Edit | Copy.
- Choose Edit | Paste to place the selection object into the active viewport.
To copy a background object from one Paint operator to another:
- On the Toolbar, click one of the selection tools and select a portion of the background to be copied.
- Choose Edit | Copy.
The background selection remains in the Paint operator and is copied to the clipboard.
- Select the Paint operator where you want to paste the object.
- Choose Edit | Paste. The selection is pasted into the current Paint operator.
