Text Insert Options

When you select the Text tool, the following options appear. The Insert options insert sequential, static, or random numbers and timecode into a text object.

Number Generator

The Number option generates integers or floating point numbers.

Click Number to insert a number generator, and then use the Number panel to control the number settings.

Value

Use to set the value of a number. Value must be animated to generate a sequence of numbers.

Step

Use to specify the gap between the numbers when Value is animated. For example, a Step value of 3 increases or decreases the number in increments of 3.

Random

Enable to generate random numbers based on the other parameters (such as padding, etc.) set in the Number panel.

Rate of Change

Use when Random is enabled to set the rate that new random numbers are generated (in frames). A Rate of Change set to 1 creates a new random number every frame. A Rate of Change set to 5 creates a new random number every 5 frames, and so on.

Use Range

Use when Random is enabled to constrain the random number generator to a specific range of values.

Min

Use when Use Range is enabled to set the minimum random value.

Max

Use when Use Range is enabled to set the maximum random value.

Padding

Use to set the number of leading zeros displayed in the text object.

Decimal Places

Use to set the number of decimal places displayed in the text object.

Timecode Generator

The Timecode option generates timecode (in standard timecode display or frames).

Click Timecode to insert a timecode generator, and then use the Timecode panel to control the timecode settings.

Value

Use to set the value of the timecode. Value must be animated to generate a timecode sequence.

Display List

Use to select the type of timecode displayed.

Select:

Enable to automatically generate timecode (or frames) based on the current time.

Offset

Use when Use Current Timecode is enabled to set the start value of the timecode to other than the current frame.

Random

Enable to generate random timecode.

Note: When Random timecode is enabled, the Use Current Timecode option is unavailable.

Use Range

Use when Random is enabled to constrain the random timecode generator to a specific range set by the Min and Max sliders.
