Creating Text Gradients

You can create color and opacity gradients for the Face and Outlines attributes of a text object. The gradient controls in the Text operator are identical to the gradient controls in the Paint operator, with one exception. In the Paint operator, you can apply different gradient types (linear, radial, radial sweep, and spiral). In the Text operator, only the linear gradient type can be applied. For more information, see Creating Gradients.

Note: The gradient colors, position and opacity can be animated.

Creating a Color Gradient Face

Apply color gradients to Text objects to create different effects.

To apply a color gradient to a text object:
  1. Select the text object.
  2. In the text Attributes panel, click Face.
  3. Note: You can also apply a separate color gradient to the Outline attribute.

  4. In the Face controls, click Gradient.
  5. The Gradient controls appear.

  6. Click the Color gradient bar to add color tags (you need at least two tags to create a gradient).
  7. Set the color for each tag.
  8. Note: To set a tag's color, double-click the tag and select a color from the Pick Color dialog. You can also right-click (Windows) or Ctrl-click (Macintosh) the tag and select a color from the color palette.

  9. Click and drag the tags to adjust their position.

Creating an Opacity Gradient Face

Adjust the opacity gradients to create a text object with a gradual change in transparency.

To apply an opacity gradient to a text object:
  1. In the Face controls, click Gradient.
  2. Note: You can also apply a separate color opacity to the Outline attribute.

  3. In the Gradient controls, click the Color gradient bar to add gradient tags.
  4. To adjust the opacity value, select a gradient tag, then adjust the opacity in the Opacity field.
  5. Note: You can also double-click the opacity tag, and enter a value in the calculator.

  6. Click and drag the tags to adjust their position.
  7. Note: The colors, position, and opacity of the gradients can be animated.

For more information, see Creating an Opacity Gradient.
