Creating Text Rolls and Crawls

Use the Roll Up, Roll Down, Crawl Left or Crawl Right options in combination with the Completion or Speed sliders to create rolling or crawling text.

Note: You can copy and paste text from a text editor (such as Notepad or SimpleText). This is especially useful for long credit lists, or special characters such as accents or math symbols.

To create a text roll up using the Completion slider:
  1. Go to the frame where you want to begin the text roll up.
  2. In the Text Controls panel (F8), click Text.
  3. Click Layout.
  4. From the Type list, select Roll Up.
  5. Click in the Text Editor and enter text.
  6. Since the Roll Up is selected, the text box appears beneath the viewport (in the roll-up starting position).

Note: If the text already exists, the text object will change position when Roll Up is enabled. Position the text beneath the viewport in the correct start position.

  7. Enable Animate.
  8. Go to the frame where you want to end the animation.
  9. Scrub in the Completion field until the text is in the desired position.
  10. Over the duration of the animation, the text "rolls up" the viewport and lands in the specified position.

Note: Use these steps to create Roll Down, Crawl Left and Crawl Right text animation types, respectively.

To create a text roll up using the Speed slider:
  1. Go to the frame where you want to begin the text roll up.
  2. In the Text Controls panel (F8), click Text.
  3. Click Layout.
  4. From the Type list, select Roll Up.
  5. Click in the Text Editor and enter text.
  6. In the Completion/Speed list, select Speed.
  7. The Speed field replaces the Completion percentage field.

The Text automatically "rolls up" in the viewport. To change the Speed of the animation, adjust the Speed value.
