Modes Controls

Use the Modes controls to apply draw modes to text objects and to enable Preserve Alpha.

Foreground and Background Colors

Use the foreground color box to change the color of a selected text object.

Note: Setting the text color using the foreground color box is the same as setting the text color in the Text Attributes panel.

Use the background color box to set a secondary color. Use the Foreground and Background color boxes to quickly change between two colors.

Channels

Select the color channel, such as Red, Green, Blue, Alpha or Inverted Alpha, for the text object from the Channels list.

Note: When channels other than RGBA and RGB are selected from the Channels list, only the draw modes that affect the selected channel are available from the Draw Mode list. For example, when a text object's channel is set to Blue, the Dodge Highlights/Midtones/Shadows is not available.

The following illustration shows a Rectangular Mask applied to the gold texture layer (in a composite with a black background). The mask creates areas of transparency (alpha channel) in the image. A Text operator is applied above the mask operator in the layer stack. The various Channel settings for the text object affect the alpha channel of the layer, and how the text object appears in the viewport.

Opacity

Use the Opacity slider to change the opacity of the selected channel for the text object.

Note: You can also adjust text opacity in the Text Attributes panel.

Draw Mode list

Use the Draw Mode list to select the draw mode. For a description of each mode, see Draw Modes.

To change the draw mode of a text object:
  1. Select the text object.
  2. In the Text Controls panel (F8), click Modes.
  3. Click Paint, and select a draw mode from the Draw Mode list.
  4. Note: The draw mode applies to all characters within a single text block. You cannot change the draw modes of the individual characters of a text object.

  5. If applicable, adjust the Pressure slider.

Pressure Slider

Use the Pressure slider to vary the intensity of the selected draw mode. This slider is ghosted for draw modes that do not have a variable intensity.

Preserve Alpha

Enable Preserve Alpha to make the text object respect the alpha channel of the image.

To use Preserve Alpha:
  1. Select the text object.
  2. In the Text Controls panel (F8), click Modes.
  3. By default, Preserve Alpha is disabled.

  4. Enable Preserve Alpha.
  5. The text object uses the alpha channel of the image as a mask.

Text Draw Mode Controls in Paint

When creating text in Paint, you change the draw mode of a text object using the Modes panel in the Paint Controls panel.

To change the draw mode of a text object created in Paint:
  1. Select the text object.
  2. In the Paint Controls panel (F8), click Modes.
  3. Click Paint, and select a draw mode from the Draw Mode list.
  4. Note: Once text is created in Paint, it is treated like any other Paint object. In addition to the specific Text controls, you can use any of the tools available for a Paint object.
