Selection Operators

Use Selection operators to isolate a portion of the image. Any operators applied after the selection affects only the selected portion of the image. For more information, see Using Operators with Selections.

You can also create selections using the Paint operator. For more information, see Paint: Drawing Selections.

The following controls are available for Rectangle, Ellipse, and Draw Selection operators.

Combine Mode List

If you create several selections in the same operator, the combination mode determines how the selections are combined. In addition, if you place a Channel selection above another Selection operator, the list determines how the two selections are combined.

Feather

Softens the edge of the selection, and softens the edge of any filter applied to the selection.

Invert

Selects the area outside the selection.

Anti-Alias

Smooths any jagged edges.

Edge Gradient

Just like the Mask operators, the Selection operators have controls for edge gradients. Use the Offset, In/Out, or Splines edge gradient options to define the inner and outer softness of a selection. For more information, see Using Mask Edge Gradients.
