Adding a Bit Depth Converter

You can promote and demote bit depth mid-stream using the Bit Depth Converter operator. For example, you can increase bit depth to increase the number of possible colors before an operator such as the Keyer. After the Keyer, you can decrease the bit depth to save memory.

To change bit depth mid-stream:
  1. In the Workspace panel, select the operator after which the bit depth will change (in other words, the one directly upstream of the bit depth change).
  2. Choose Operators | Color Correction | Bit Depth Converter.
  3. The Bit Depth Controls panel appears.

  4. In the Settings controls, select another bit depth from the Output Color Depth list.
  5. For reference, the input bit depth is shown below the Output Color Depth list.

  6. To apply a Lookup Table, enable Use LUT and click LUT Editor to show the LUT Editor controls.
  7. For more information on LUTs, see Using Lookup Tables.

  8. You can also use the storage buttons and Compare tool found in the Settings controls. To learn more about these standard tools, see Storing Operator Settings.
