Using the Histogram

The histogram displays the distribution of luminance values within the matte.

The horizontal axis of the histogram represents the range of alpha values in the matte and spans from 0 (black or transparent) to 255 (white or opaque). The vertical axis shows the number of pixels at each value.

Removing Gray from the Matte

Use the input level controls to remove gray from the matte. You can darken the black areas, or brighten the white areas of the matte.

To remove gray from the black areas:

Drag the minimum input slider to the right.

To remove gray from the white areas:

Drag the maximum input slider to the left.

Darkening or Brightening the Matte

You can use the output level controls to remap the alpha values for black (0) and white (255).

Note: If you are using a different bit depth, there are more than 256 levels.

You can brighten the dark areas of the matte or darken the white areas. Intermediate values are also remapped.

To brighten the matte:

Drag the minimum output slider to the right.

To darken the matte:

Drag the maximum output slider to the left.
