Using Camera Animation in 3ds max RPF and RLA Files

When you render a scene in 3ds max, camera data such as (X, Y, Z) position, direction, and field of view are stored in the RPF or RLA file format. When you import the RPF or RLA files into combustion, you can use this camera data to control the camera in a 3D composite.

Instead of animating the camera in a composite, you can use the camera animation that is stored in the rich pixel scene.

To use rich pixel camera data:
  1. In the Workspace panel, select a composite or a layer.
  2. In the Composite Controls panel, click the Camera button to display the Camera controls.
  3. In the RPF Transform Layer list, select the layer with the camera animation you want to use.
  4. The camera's position, direction, and field of view are now taken from the selected RPF or RLA file. Notice the other Camera controls are disabled to indicate that you no longer control the camera; instead, the camera animation is based on information stored in the RPF or RLA file.

  5. Set a viewport to Camera view and preview the animation.
  6. Because the camera data has changed, you may have to move or rotate some layers in order to see them. For more information, see Using Rich Pixel Renderings.
