Locking Layers to the Background

Normally, the footage you import into a composite changes perspective when you move or rotate the camera. You can lock a layer to the camera to prevent it from changing perspective when you move the camera. This is useful when you have footage with real camera motion and you want to composite elements with the footage and "matchmove" the virtual camera to the real one. In this case, lock the original footage to the background and the camera so that it does not change perspective.

To lock a layer to the camera and background:
  1. Select the layer.
  2. In the Layer controls, select Background Depth Order.
  3. The layer always appears behind other objects (unless the objects are also locked to the background).

  4. Enable Lock Orientation.
  5. The layer always appears perpendicular to the current viewpoint.
