HUMAN CONSUMPTION SWEETCORN |
A The special growing and processing of Pescaviva Sweetcorn
Although Pescaviva sweetcorn grains are of a type suitable for human consumption, a special strain of sweetcorn is used, which produces large, sweet, dense grains which are ideally suited for mounting on a hook.
The 'hooking' qualities of Pescaviva sweetcorn grains are further enhanced, by allowing them to mature on the cob, before harvesting. The grains for Pescaviva sweetcorn are harvested at 110/120 days, instead of the 90 days for sweetcorn for human consumption. This results in more compact grains (1).
At the time of harvesting and canning, Pescaviva sweetcorn grains contain 40% of solids (after the removal of water) than sweetcorn grains for human consumption (2).
During the canning process (our cans have a drained weight of 285 grams), the sweetness of the grains enhanced by the addition of sugar (3). Colouring (4) and Flavouring (5) is also added. The addition of extra water (6) (40% more than in sweetcorn for human consumption), means that Pescaviva sweetcorn grains are suspended in a sweet flavoured liquor which is highly attractive to fish.
B All Pescaviva cans (Traditional, Competition, and Cream) are different from those of sweetcorn for human consumption
Pescaviva cans have “ring-pull” opening (7) and are fitted with a replaceable plastic lid (8). This makes them easy to open and also re-sealable.
The cans are tall and slim to make them easier to hold and open (9).
C The contents of a can of Pescaviva Traditional and Competition
(only for fishing use).
Approximately 1,000 sweetcorn grains are suspended in a liquor which comprises of sugar, colourings (red, yellow, orange, brown), flavourings (we offer 14 different flavours) and approximately 70 grams of water.
All colourings and flavourings used in the manufacture of Pescaviva products are of a type approved for human consumption. Pescaviva products contain nothing which is toxic to either fish or humans, and they are, therefore, environmentally friendly!
Our modern sterilisation process means that preservatives are unnecessary. The process also results in the complete amalgamation of the sugar, colouring and flavouring with the sweetcorn grains.
Pescaviva sweetcorn grains can be stored for much longer than sweetcorn for human consumption, following the opening of the can, even without the plastic lid. The storage time can be maximised by placing the opened cans in refrigerator (10).
