Tiny Planet is small device connected to a GSM cell phone. When the mobile receives a predefined SMS (text message), like "Activate burglar alarm" or "Start backup pump", the circuit automatically recognizes it as a command, and switches the output port accordingly. Besides switching the port on or off, the user can pulse it for a short period (e.g. “Reboot remote server”).
The device can be used as well to
notify the status of the input port, sending automatically a message
every time the input changes (e.g. "Warning, intrusion detected", "Insufficient
level in Tank #5”).
To know input status at any time, the device can send back a SMS based
on the status of the input, as a response to a request message.
Tiny Planet gets the most out of
a 8-pin microcontroller an is remarkably simple. Text messages are customizable
(despite of using less than 512 instructions of assembler code) and is simple
to use: ways simpler than most GSM modems...
