Stage 4

from La Fouly (1610 m, CH) to Champex (1466 m, CH)

Uphill difference of level / in height: 410m
Downhill difference of level / in height: 550 m
Refuges on the way: you go through some villages of the Swiss part of the Val Ferret

Average duration of the stage: 4 h 15 min

The fourth stage, that can as well be covered by bus, lets us rest from the effort of the previous day, because it is a quite long path but lacks of deep differences of level / height gains. The path starts directly in the camping, a few meters from our tents. After a good breakfast of bread (purchasable at the camping reception) and Nutella we resume our journey. The way is very pleasant: large mule-tracks alternate long ways in the wood, with gentle ups and downs. We walk through some tiny villages with their typical houses made entirely of wood.

The difficulties of this stage are the length (more or less 20 km) and the final height gain to get to Champex.

As soon as we reach Champex we look for the camping, piantiamo le tende, take a shower and start looking for a place in the village to have something to eat. We give up the idea of eating in a restaurant, because they are very expensive, and end up in a sort of pub, where we era given some frozen pizzas and hamburgers, cooked using a microwave! To compensate the awful dinner we drop in a crêperie, where we gobble delicious crêpes. We go back to the camping, prepared to face a very cold and damp night, that ; that puts us through the hoops the summer sleeping bag of a few of us.
