Count Bavastro and the Saint Daniel's competition

Once upon a time in the "what-do-you-call-it" kingdom there was a noble man, Count Bavastro, very keen on weapons, heralds and also cooking. This latter was an interest that was showed by all the noblemen of the kingdom. In fact on Saint Daniel's day a cooking competition was held, that all were very eager to win. As the popular saying goes "On Saint Daniel's Day keep dieticians away".

Count Bavastro was as eager as everyone of his peers to win the competition but his cooking abilities were very poor indeed. So he thought of the famous Mirimao Wizard. Mirimao was known for his competence on vegetables. It was said of him that if he didn't heard of a vegetable, then it didn't exist anywhere in the world. Count Bavastro's idea was to have a little talk with him.

Mirimao Wizard lived in a cauliflower hut in the woods. Count Bavastro entered through the "Celery" front-door and met the wizard lying on a bed of lettuce leaves. "He will surely give me the right advice to win the competition" he thought.

"Wizard Mirimao, if I don't win this year's Saint Daniel my county and I will be joked by all the kingdom. What's worst, it will be a great joy for my fierce enemy, the Duke Ghepardone! I need you to give me advice on a herb that can compensate my poor cooking. In return I promise a due reward." Mirimao Wizard sat silently for a little while, then said: "Count Bavastro, in my knowledge there is a vegetable that I can suggest to you. Added to any course it will transform all the qualities of tastes in a sensational experience. As a reward I ask you for the Moroccan lemon tree living in the corner of your garden".

The Count didn't even known of such a tree in his garden and didn't hesitate one second in granting the reward.

So the Wizard told of a very rare vegetable that he saw in a very remote land of the kingdom: the turbo-turnip. It's flavour, texture and qualities were such that after tasting it one cannot do without anymore. There was a problem though: this land was 20 riding days away, too far to be back on time for the competition.

Count Bavastro called for Bardo with urgency. Bardo was the fastest and the most loyal among his men. Bardo said: "My Lord, I know how to carry out this task. Trust me, I'll be back with the turbo-turnip in time for you to win!"
