Bolsena Ricama lace and embroidery school was born in 1995 after the first edition of "Pizzi a Palazzo" exhibition - a traditional Bolsena rendez-vous. In 1999 it was established as Woman’s Society for social promotion with the intent of developing teaching, training, promotion and assessment of embroidery, lace and textile making, opening up workshops and shops for craftsmanship faced with the danger of extinction. The aim of this institution was chiefly that of resuming Ars Wetana legacy fallen into decline in the seventies, when embroidery and lace making was considered out of fashion, thus reviving Orvieto crochet lace tradition. Today, at a few years distance, it can be said this aim has been fulfilled. During the last years Bolsena Ricama brought its works to several exhibitions, such as: "Pani e Fili, Breads &Threads of Italy" (1998-1999); International Lace Biennial of Sansepolcro (in 1998 it won the silver medal); Cantù lace Biennial ; "Il sogno nelle mani" (Dream in my hands) in 2000, organised by Association Il fusello in Cesena. Seasonal activity of the school runs from October to May. It consists of several classes: besides Orvieto crochet lace, also embroidery, bobbin lace, tatting lace, net lace. On request, in summer individual classes can be arranged.
