Setting Footage Bit Depth

When you import an image or a clip, the Footage operator for the source material automatically detects bit depth. For example, when you import a 16-bit TIFF file, the Depth list in the Output controls is set to 16 Bit. You can change the bit depth in the Footage operator.

For more information on importing footage, see Importing Footage. To learn about the preferences that control how Cineon files are imported, see Converting Cineon Files to Linear.

To change footage bit depth:
  1. In the Workspace panel, select the Footage operator.
  2. The Footage Controls panel appears.

  3. Click Output to show the Output controls.
  4. From the Depth list, select another bit depth.
  5. Note: To see the original bit depth of the footage, look at the Footage details at the right side of the panel. The total number of bits in the color and alpha channels is shown (for example, 24 bits for an 8-bit image without an alpha channel).

  6. To apply a Lookup Table, enable Use LUT and click LUT Editor to show the LUT Editor controls.
  7. For more information on LUTs, see Using Lookup Tables.
