- THE POETTO BEACH:
Sardinia is one of the most beautiful islands of the Mediterranean Sea and among the many beaches of the southern coast of the island, the Poetto beach is surely one of the best: 8 km of white sand along the coast road that connects Cagliari to Quartu Sant'Elena.
Poetto is the favorite beach of both young people and families because it gives the possibility to enjoy the wonderful Sardinian sun and a very clean sea-water at just a few steps from Quartu and Cagliari. If you are a birds passionate, or simply a nature enthusiast, at walking distance from the beach you'll have the opportunity to observe hundreds of pink flamingos and many other bird species.
The nightlife along the beach is also intense: just after the sunrise it is animated by locals and tourists which come here for a dinner in the typical see-food restaurants, a drink in one of the several bar or just to take a walk, enjoy live music concert, karaoke, etc.
To complete the scenery, at the end of the beach, in the direction from Quartu to Cagliari, you'll find the Marina Piccola Yacht Club, a nice small harbor that any sailing enthusiast can't fail to visit and that in some period of the year host many important sailing competitions like Tiscali Cup, Europa class World Championship, etc.
This year (2011) the Poetto beach has been once again awarded with the prestigious Blue Flag, the exclusive eco-label award assigned worldwide by the independent non-profit organization FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) to the beaches compliance with 27 criteria covering the following aspects: water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, safety and services.
