The
Dendre river is a Belgian river with its source in the Walloon region
and the downstream part in the Flemish region. It is a tributary of the
Schelde river. The Walloon part of the Dendre basin has an extension of
about 800 sq. Km and the length of the river is approximately 40 km. At
about 20 km from its source the main river the West Dendre joins with
a tributary the East Dendre. An important artificial channel, Canal Blaton
converges at this confluence and links the Meuse basin to the Schelde
basin through a series of weirs. The basin coverage is dominated by agricultural
land with important industrial or urban centres. The topography of the
land is characterised by medium-low hills. Three water level and discharge
gauges are placed along the Dendre and its tributary, whilst two water
level meters are situated in the Dendre, close to the Flemish boundary.
Four rainfall gauges are also installed.
