   He is the "King of the Earth", he controls the contagious diseases and can cure them.
He represents a wounded doctor: as smallpox disfigured him, he dances with his face
and body covered by a hood made of straw (palha-da-costa).
He has in his hands a sort of sceptre called  Xaxará  that keeps away illnesses;
and his dance represents the pain and convulsions of fever.
