Rendering Your Work

Your project can be rendered to a movie file (QuickTime or AVI), a sequence of images, or a single still image.

By default, when you open the Render Queue dialog, combustion creates an operator entry, with one output, for each branch (and each unused Footage operator) in the process tree. You can also render the output of any operator at any point in the process tree.

Add, delete, and reorder operators and outputs as required. You can also use Quick Setup and presets to recall commonly used output options for fast setup.

Note: When you render an operator that has already been cached in RAM and no changes to the output settings are required, combustion saves the contents of the cache to disk. This saves time over rendering the operator again.

To render your work:
  1. Choose File | Render.
  2. The Render Queue dialog appears.

  3. If required, set the rendering preferences to customize the behavior of the Render Queue. For more information, see Setting Preferences.
  4. Enable the operators and outputs that you want to render in the queue. For information, see Working with Operators and Outputs.
  5. To render the video portions of an operator, select the output and enable Video Output. It is enabled by default.
  6. To render the audio portions of an operator, select the output and enable Audio Output. For more information, see Audio Rendering.
  7. Select a format, and set the output settings, as required. For information on these options, see Specifying Video Output Settings.
  8. Click the Filename button to use the file browser to set the path and name for the rendered file(s).
  9. You can also enter the path and filename directly in the Filename field.

  10. To automatically import the rendered footage into the workspace, enable Import into Workspace.
  11. After you render, you will find the new Footage operator in the Footage Library.

  12. To send an e-mail at the end of the render, set the e-mail options. For details, see Sending E-mail after Rendering.
  13. To automatically send image files to a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site after they are rendered, enable FTP, then click Settings to set the FTP options. For details, see Copying to an FTP Site.
  14. Enter the first frame to render in the Start field. Enter the last frame to render in the End field. By default, the entire operator is rendered.
  15. If you want to schedule when the enabled outputs should be rendered, set the time in the preferences. For details, see Scheduling When to Render.
  16. Click Process.
  17. If the Select Compressor dialog appears, set the required options for the video format and click OK. For information, see Choosing an Image Format.

combustion begins rendering the enabled outputs. The status of the rendering is displayed on the status bars and in the Statistics panel.

Note: You should not use your computer for other tasks while rendering, as this can have a significant impact on the time it takes to render the outputs.
