Sea stories > studying the seas > research activities

The only research on sharks in the wild in the Mediterranean sea. Sandbar sharks in Turkey.
Swimming with dolphins in Marsa Alam, Egypt. An extraordinary opportunity to meet dolphins in the wild, as long as it is conducted responsibly.

Our mission is to understand, preserve, and protect marine animals and their habitat by enhancing our knowledge through education, exploration and research.

Through exploration and research, Sea Stories produces - or is a consultant in the production of - articles, books, documentary films and lectures to fulfill its primary objective of education.
By educating the public, especially the young, and by sharing our research with universities and wildlife organizations, Sea Stories joins the international movement that strives to protect and ensure the survival of our oceans.

We believe that the protection of the marine world can be greatly enhanced through communication. It is vital to make the public aware of:

- the beauty and diversity of the marine environment

- the problems seas and oceans face in the long term

- the role each of us may have in protecting our seas.

Communication should be exciting but not sensationalistic; in order to capture people's interest it may focus on key species (sharks, whales, dolphins and turtles) but should always strive to make them ambassadors for their environment. And above all, it must always be scientifically updated and correct.

ACTIONS
Sea Stories aims to contribute actively to increasing the knowledge on marine life - with special emphasis on the Mediterranean Sea by...
- promoting, assisting and defining research programmes on marine animals in co-operation with international researchers
- acting as a link between the public and scientists,
- contributing with professionals skills (communication, photography, networking)

This approach lead us to work in team with many researchers around the world.
In association with Universities and Marine Research Institutes and Organizations (like: the Univeristy of Rome La Sapienza, Icram (Italy's Central Research of Marine Science), Uno Squalo per Amico, Tethys , Fondazione Cetacea ) we are taking part in several research programmes:
- Mediterranean Observatory
- Shark bay
- Spinner dolphins

- Giant sharks in the Med
- 7th European Elasmobranch Association scientific meeting
