Typical places to visit in the north-east of Sicily

 

  Milazzo It's a small town on the tyrrhenian coast .It's also a natural landing-place for the Eolie's Islands. The fortified town with the castle, the old dome, the medieval village and numerous churches is very interesting. All these monuments bring important pages in history to life again, from Greeks to the expedition of "Mille".
  Barcellona It's the biggest centre in the province of Messina after the chief town. It's a commercial town in which there are old traditions of handcraft. It's confirmed by two important museums to visit with S. Sebastian's Dome.
  S. Lucia It rises near the middle of Milazzo in a good hilling and panoramic position. It's a typical feudal city, in which the arabic castle is in the dominant position. It was the favourite home of Federico II.
  Tindari It is known in all of Sicily for its wonderful Sanctuary dadicated to the niger Our Lady, and for its several remains of an ancient greek theatre, a roman gymnasium and many good preserved houses in a beautiful atmospere.
  Eolian Islands It is an Archipelago composed by seven islands:Vulcano, Stromboli, Lipari, Salina, Panarea, Alicudi, e Filicudi. The first are two active vulcanos.
  Messina It is a sea town known for the namesake strait that shares the Sicily from the rest of Italy. The things to visit are the little lakes of Ganzirri and the momuments such ad the Dome with the representative clock.
  Taormina The most famous and characteristic sicilian place in the world for its extraordinary beauty. It is situated on a hill, with it's greek-roman theatre and it offer a fantastic view to the visitors.
  Etna It is the biggest volcano in Europe (mt. 3300). It doesen't need introductions. It is imposing to see and it's impressive with its lavaflows. In Winter you can also ski and watch a unique landscape full of eruptions in the snow.
