Civate si trova nelle vicinanze di Lecco ed è raggiungibile percorrendo la statale n°36, che da Milano porta al Passo Spluga, uscendo a Civate.
 Dal paese, con un sentiero acciottolato e facile, in circa 45' si sale al complesso di S.Pietro al Monte dove, oltre a possibili visite guidate, si ha una bella vista sui sottostanti laghi.

Brevi cenni storici.
 La leggenda narra che una chiesa, dedicata a S.Pietro e S.Paolo, fu fatta edificare dal re longobardo Desiderio in seguito alla miracolosa guarigione del figlio dalla cecità.
 In realtà sembra che ci fosse un insediamento Benedettino nel luogo dove sorge l'abbazia. Il complesso è composto di due nuclei, la chiesa di S.Pietro al Monte e l'attiguo oratorio di S.Benedetto, l'altro il monastero di S.Calocero che si trova a Civate.
 Nel 1907 vi fu sepolto l'arcivescovo di Milano Arnolfo III, dopo di che inizia il lento declino del luogo, due soli monaci sono presenti nel 1380, la successiva chiusura sarà nel 1611.
 La basilica a tre navate conserva caratteri romanici, il chiostro a portici e loggiati risalgono al 500 ed è opera degli Olivetani.

 Civate is in the vicinity of Lecco (city on the lake of Como) and it is attainable from the highway n°36, that from Milan carry to the Passo Spluga, going out to Civate.

An outline history.

 In the 1907 there was buried the archbishop from Milan Arnolfo III, after of that begin the slow decline of the place, only two monks are present in the 1380, the abbey was closed in the 1611.
 The basilica had three aisles and preserve Romanesque characters, the porticos cloister and galleries goes up around 500 century and it is work of the Olivetani.
