Con le caratteristiche del borgo contadino Lodi Vecchio č un paese che ben rappresenta il paesaggio della pianura Lombarda.
 Nel territorio limitrofo sono presenti gli elementi peculiari dell'ambiente contadino, cascine ed aziende agricole.
 Fu cittā importante al tempo dei Romani, posta al crocevia di importanti vie di comunicazione ed era chiamata Laus Pompea in onore di Pompeo Strabone.
 Alla fine del IV secolo divenne sede vescovile e S.Bassiano fu designato primo vescovo, la basilica, che risale al X secolo, fu a lui dedicata ed è l'unica testimonianza rimasta di quel periodo.
 La chiesa che ha subito influenze Romaniche prima e Gotiche poi è l'attrativa principale del piccolo borgo è detta anche dei XII Apostoli perché alla sua consacrazione furono deposte le reliquie di alcuni di loro.
 Ottimo esempio di architettura lombarda furono le modifiche subite negli anni che le conferirono lo stile Romano e Gotico.
 Per arrivarci è molto semplice, percorrendo l'autostrada del sole partendo da Milano (direzione sud), già nelle vicinanze del casello di uscita per Lodi è possibile vedere la chiesa isolata in mezzo alla campagna. una volta usciti dal casello indicazioni segnaletiche guidano sulla strada per Lodi Vecchio. Per chi proviene da sud l'uscita è Lodi.
